*************: so you were telling me you dated a witch before what was that like?

Me: informative, useful and if I'd listened to her I wouldn't have got beaten up by the police and arrested I'd have gone to a hippy commune in Cornwall.

*************: that the problem with all men they never listen lol

Me: cheeky wench. I say all women cheat. is that true?

*************: lol to be honest i truly beieve so as women we are bound by emotins and that make more vuunerable, wather it be physicaly or emotionally men can easily be content with life but thats just me

Me: and I be,ieve women choose not to listen to men as it's not convenient and therein lies the rub we're not seen as emotional. We are. I most certainly am, as are many of my male friends.

*************: yes but to a certain extent

Me: what?

*************: you can be emotional to a certain extent

Me: to the extent that it became a problem. to the extent that I learnt to shut them out as to men: it suits women, to think we're not emotional it's easy. puts us all in a nice little box

*************: interesting

um...what? Women can be content with life (I, at least, am...most of the time)

And...as for men not listening...I think that PEOPLE don't listen when it suits them, it's called selective hearing.

For example, in customer service, when you are explaining to someone that they will get a discounted rate in exchange for a new commitment to the company, they just hear discount.

But if you tell them that there was an error with their bill, and apologize, and that you will apply an adjustment - they ALWAYS hear that entire sentence.

Same goes in normal conversation - if you are trying to have a logical discussion and the other person doesn't agree, they won't hear the logic. But, I have never had someone NOT hear a compliment.

And men ARE emotional. Perhaps not so much with large groups of friends (assuming we are talking tears and whatnot - but they DO at that time show different emotions - have you ever watched a group of sport fanatics at a football game?)

Some of us understand...

13:28 Sep 26 2010
Times Read: 750

So I read this piece by Cameron, that exponent of Thatcher’s policies: and in the article in The Telegraph, he says that we [the public] will accept the cutbacks he’ll propose, as we realise how much they’re needed.

He talks of cutting benefits, one of being the universal child-benefit; and says we’ll understand. He tells us we’ll understand, as we see the rich get richer and our standard of living lowers. And, I’m sure he’s right.

Didn’t we understand, when Thatcher’s iniquitous poll-Tax ripped apart the fabric of our society? Of course we did. And, there were riots, much like there already are in some European countries already.

And meanwhile our remaining unions, the one’s Thatcher didn’t break, are asking the questions that need to be asked, finally: albeit a tad late methinks.

Meanwhile, the ConDem party we have in government now are continuing the policies of Thatcher, in a way that she would be proud of, I’m sure. And, I recall Cameron proudly inviting her to No.10 shortly after he got there, after eleven years, ‘in the wilderness’.

We are way too dependent on ‘the city’, the very people who got us where we are.

And while these misbegotten wretches continue their bonus culture, thieving from the small investors who see little return now, what industry do we have left to get us out of this mess, while Cameron makes his obscene cuts?

Other countries own many of our public utilities; we have no coal industry, as Thatcher took pride in closing them and, what oil does this country have? Oh, we have reserves left, but we own none. I cannot think of one successful British firm showing profit. In fact, I cannot think of one British firm.

But, we have a Royal Family: and, look how much they cost!?! And still, we give aid abroad, that this country can ill afford to give any longer, while Cameron drags the peoples standard of living further downhill. Yet what does this matter, to those sitting on the front-bench of Westminster? Many are millionaires. And these are the MP’s of the man who said to us, “We’re all in it together..”

Pardon me while I laugh.

Thatcher depended on ‘the city’, famously saying, “Society was dead.”

What is dead is the heart of a once great country, that is being dragged further into the mire, through under investment and greedy men and women, determined to avoid paying their dues, to a country and people that funds their lavish lifestyles.

But, everything is alright as, Simon Cowell will no doubt get a knighthood, for providing distraction to the masses, as Britannia sinks beneath the waves.

“Aye, some of us do understand Mister Cameron!”

'Machete'

13:05 Sep 15 2010
Times Read: 790

Ever since Tarantino’s Grindhouse homage, many had ached to see the film that wasn’t, the trailer for which was tucked in between ‘Death Proof’ and ‘Planet Terror.’

Well, now it is. ‘Machete’ is out there and, it is all I had wanted to be.

Right from the title and the titles including the legend, ‘An Overnight Production’, which is hardly the truth now, to the film makers, who brought it to the screen, the film was as bloody and humorous as only Robert Rodriquez could make it.

With a cast that included, Steven Seagal, Michelle Rodriguez, Jeff Fahey, Cheech Marin, Lindsay Lohan, Tom Savini, Don Johnson, Jessica Alba and Robert DeNiro.

Each of the cast either played against type, or in the case of some, to their image; and Danny Trejo, as the titular antihero, was superb.

I swear down, there’s a film I’ll watch again.

Just the perfect touch of humor mixed in with the gore.

So a young man of fifteen tries to intervene when two fellows and a woman attack an old man: and he got sliced by a used can of beer.

Then a group of youths throw eggs at a family’s window and someone objects and, they return later, with a shotgun, which they use on the windows and door of this family home.

This happened in the north west of England, recently.

Is this the way my country is going?? I despair, of people. Let’s all give up, Now.

‘Caution – young children onboard?’

14:00 Sep 12 2010
Times Read: 802

Walking down the road going home Friday afternoon, I watched the faces of the oncoming motorists, telling myself a story of each as they did so as you do, well as I do; and as I had told my stories I counted six people using their mobiles as they drove.

Five of the six drivers using their phones were female, one was male: and I couldn’t help but wonder if one of the younger women driving had a sticker in the back of their rearview window, saying ‘Caution – young children onboard?’

I find myself wondering, ‘do these women set out to kill their children, when they go on their mobiles, while they’re driving?’ often.

Put this on your page if you HATE racism

I nicked this, from someone's profile: I'll admit that, here and now.

White man said, "Colored people are not allowed here."

The black man turned around and stood up. He then said:

"Listen sir....when I was born I was BLACK, "

"When I grew up I was BLACK "

"When I'm sick I'm BLACK, "

"When I go in the sun I'm BLACK, "

"When I'm cold I'm BLACK, "

"When I die I'll be BLACK."

"But you sir."

"When you're born you're pink, "

"When you grow up you're white ,"

"When you're sick, you're green, "

"When you go in the sun you turn red, "

"When you're cold you turn blue, "

"And when you die you turn purple."

"And you have the nerve to call me colored?"

The black man then sat back down and the white man walked away....

Put this on your page if you HATE racism

You know what, I don't like this. It's not just white people that are racist. Everyone else can say or do what they want but when a white does the same, they're racists and accused of hate crimes. So fuck that.

I can't tell you how many times I've been jumped by some black chick and called a cracker and all that and nothing ever happens to them. But if I defend myself, I get thrown in jail for a couple of days for an attempted hate crime. Yea, okay. Thanks.

I am only slightly inclined to agree with a part of MyAmryLife's point.

Reverse racism is becoming quite apparent in everyday society, sublty so, and yet it goes completely unchecked. Everyone carries their own perception of white, black, brown etc, and this is where the prejudice, shaped by their own experiences comes into play.

But for example, I was on the bus today and the bus driver let on three white ppl before driving away and the black dude, who was late for the bus, didn't make it on time.

As an example, in this instance the white driver could have been accused of racism and suspended, If the black passenger had complained. Now reverse the colours and if it were a white passenger and a black driver, nothing would have been done, because for the white passenger to call out racism on the black driver, he would only be laughed at.

However, in our society there is a tremendous amount of white priviledge that you have to acknowledge.

“Go on, try it! I did Scary-time”

In 1959, the world was a different place.

There was no Google yet. Or Yahoo. Or Uk.mc241.mail.yahoo, for that matter.

In 1959, the year of your birth, the top selling movie was Ben-Hur. People buying the popcorn in the cinema lobby had glazing eyes when looking at the poster.

Remember, that was before there were DVDs. Heck, even before there was VHS. People were indeed watching movies in the cinema, and not downloading them online. Imagine the packed seats, the laughter, the excitement, the novelty. And mostly all of that without 3D computer effects.

Do you know who won the Oscars that year? The academy award for the best movie went to Ben-Hur. The Oscar for best foreign movie that year went to Black Orpheus. The top actor was Charlton Heston for his role as Judah Ben-Hur in Ben-Hur. The top actress was Simone Signoret for her role as Alice Aisgill in Room at the Top. The best director? William Wyler for Ben-Hur.

In the year 1959, the time when you arrived on this planet, books were still popularly read on paper, not on digital devices. Trees were felled to get the word out. The number one US bestseller of the time was Exodus by Leon Uris. Oh, that's many years ago. Have you read that book? Have you heard of it?

In 1959... Cultivars of plants named after this date must be named in a modern language, not in Latin. Castro's troops approach Havana. The island of Addu in the Maldives declares independence. Alaska is admitted as the 49th U.S. state. Women in Nepal vote for the first time. The Marx Brothers make their last TV appearance, in The Incredible Jewel Robbery. Import tariffs are lifted in the United Kingdom. Two monkeys, Able and Miss Baker are the first living beings to successfully return to Earth from space aboard the flight Jupiter AM-18. Singapore becomes a self-governing crown colony of Britain with Lee Kuan Yew as Prime Minister. The Central Treaty Organization CENTO is established. The original Mini designed by Sir Alec Issigonis is launched. The first section of England's M1 motorway opens between the present junctions 5 and 18. Three years after its first telecast, MGM's The Wizard of Oz is shown on television for only the second time, but it gains an even larger viewing audience than its first television outing, spurring CBS to make it an annual tradition.

That was the world you were born into. Since then, you and others have changed it.

The Nobel prize for Literature that year went to Salvatore Quasimodo. The Nobel Peace prize went to Philip J. Noel-Baker. The Nobel prize for physics went to Owen Chamberlain and Emilio Gino Segrè from the United States for their discovery of the antiproton. The sensation this created was big. But it didn't stop the planets from spinning, on and on, year by year. Years in which you would grow bigger, older, smarter, and, if you were lucky, sometimes wiser. Years in which you also lost some things. Possessions got misplaced. Memories faded. Friends parted ways. The best friends, you tried to hold on. This is what counts in life, isn't it?

The 1950s were indeed a special decade. The American economy is on the upswing. The cold war betwen the US and the Soviet Union is playing out throughout the whole decade. Anti-communism prevails in the United States and leads to the Red Scare and accompanying Congressional hearings. Africa begins to become decolonized. The Korean war takes place. The Vietnam War starts. The Suez Crisis war is fought on Egyptian territory. Fidel Castro, Che Guevara and others overthrow authorities to create a communist government on Cuba. Funded by the US, reconstructions in Japan continue. In Japan, film maker Akira Kurosawa creates the movies Rashomon and Seven Samurai. The FIFA World Cups are won by Uruguay, then West Germany, then Brazil.

Do you remember the movie that was all the rage when you were 15? Murder on the Orient Express. Do you still remember the songs playing on the radio when you were 15? Maybe it was Rock Me Gently by Andy Kim. Were you in love? Who were you in love with, do you remember?

In 1959, 15 years earlier, a long time ago, the year when you were born, the song Smoke Gets in Your Eyes by The Platters topped the US charts. Do you know the lyrics? Do you know the tune? Sing along.

They asked me how I knew

My true love was true

Oh, I of course replied

Something here inside cannot be denied

...

There's a kid outside, shouting, playing. It doesn't care about time. It doesn't know about time. It shouts and it plays and thinks time is forever. You were once that kid.

When you were 9, the movie Blackbeard's Ghost was playing. When you were 8, there was Doctor Dolittle.

6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1... it's 1959. There's TV noise coming from the second floor. Someone turned up the volume way too high. The sun is burning from above. These were different times. The show playing on TV is Bonanza . The sun goes down. Someone switches channels. There's The Bell Telephone Hour on now. That's the world you were born in.

Progress, year after year. Do you wonder where the world is heading towards? The technology available today would have blown your mind in 1959. Do you know what was invented in the year you were born? The Bullet Train.

1959 was a very strange time

A bad year for labor and a good year for wine

Uncle Ike was our American Pal

And nobody talked about the Suez Canal

...

That's from the song Post World War Two Blues by Al Stewart.

In 1959, a new character entered the world of comic books: Fritz the Cat. Bang! Boom! But that's just fiction, right? In the real world, in 1959, Bryan Adams was born. And Rosanna Arquette. Nastassja Kinski, too. And you, of course. Everyone an individual. Everyone special. Everyone taking a different path through life.

It's 2010.

The world is a different place.

What path have you taken?
